Through
the Years at Brenner Oil Company
show)
In 1930 Leonard Brenner, who later in life became affectionately
known at Brenner Oil as Grandpa Brenner, started Brenner Oil
Company in the back of a pick-up truck hauling heating oil
to customers in buckets. Grandpa retired in 2000 at the young
age of 87 and passed away in March of 2007 at the age of 94.
When he retired, he still enjoyed riding in the truck and
visiting his family and old customers.
In the early 60’s, after exploring what opportunities
might exist going to college, Arlen Brenner came home one
day, borrowed some money from Grandpa and bought the first
Brenner Oil Company Transport. After considering the location
of both the customers and the terminals, Arlen moved to Holland
Michigan to set up shop. After trying various locations and
different opportunities, Brenner moved to its current location
at 12948 Quincy. In 1991, at the age of 49 Arlen passed away
leaving the future of Brenner Oil to his wife, Julie and two
sons, Doug and Jerry. Since then Julie retired and then lost
a long and courageous battle with cancer. Doug and Jerry have
continued in the Brenner tradition in a growing and dramatic
fashion.
Today,
Brenner has 147 employees in seven different locations in
Michigan. The company operates 9 peddle trucks, 50 tractors,
50 tubes and numerous service and utility vehicles. On an
average day Brenner now hauls 1.3 million gallons per day
and hauled just over 440 million gallons this past year. We
thank our customers for our continued growth and are proud
to be the largest independent oil company in Western Michigan.
Things have changed since 1930, and Brenner Oil has changed
as the times have required. Two things have remained the same
through the years; Brenner’s commitment to Service and
Quality. The demands and challenges of today’s market
require flexibility with the ability to change direction on
a moments notice. Shortages, new fuels, global terrorism,
and government regulations present new challenges on a daily
basis. As in the past and continuing into the future, Brenner
Oil Company is up to the challenge and, will continue providing
a level of service that is better than expected by our customers.
